| Job Description: |
Performs technical duties in the suppression of fire and in response to medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other emergency situations; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Work is performed under general supervision of a higher ranking officer, often under emergency and stressful conditions that may involve personal hazard. |
| Job Requirements: |
All applicants must have a valid Drivers License; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; and be physically able to perform the duties of the firefighter position. Applicants must possess knowledge of: modern firefighting techniques and equipment; federal, state and city laws and regulations related to fire control and prevention; and emergency medical techniques. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing; have demonstrated the ability to perform basic life support techniques; and have demonstrated the ability to operate: emergency apparatus, vehicles, and equipment; radio and communication equipment; and computers and other office equipment. The most preferred applicants will possess certifications in Hazardous Materials Technician Level, North Carolina Firefighter II, EMT, and Confined Space. |
