| Job Description: |
The City of South San Francisco, the birthplace of the biotechnology industry, strategically located between the City of San Francisco and the International Airport, is seeking a highly energetic, strongly motivated individual with a proven track record for our Deputy Fire Chief position. This individual will be responsible for directing the divisional activities of Fire Prevention, Code Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, Disaster Preparedness and Operations. Under administrative direction from the Fire Chief, the incumbent will perform responsible management, technical, and administrative work in commanding and coordinating fire suppression, first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care, hazardous materials investigation, and fire prevention and training. In addition, this individual will provide highly responsible technical staff assistance to the Fire Chief and other department management. This class conducts staff studies and research projects, and participates as a member of the Department’s management team. The incumbent will be empowered to use his/her knowledge, skills and abilities to manage the challenges of a dynamic and evolving department. This position serves at the will and pleasure of the Fire Chief. In the absence of the Fire Chief the Deputy Fire Chief will take command of the department. |
| Job Requirements: |
Experience: Eight years of progressively more responsible fire suppression experience, including at least four years supervisory experience at a level comparable to a South San Francisco Fire Captain.
Training: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in fire science, fire administration, public or business administration, or related field. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, management, or other related field is preferred.
Licenses or Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. |
