| Job Description: |
The Fire Chief is responsible for the delivery of all Fire and EMS services by the Xenia Township Fire Department and is the Chief Officer/ Commander for all districts,stations and personnel. The Fire Chief manages the day-to-day activity of the department and is responsible for oversight and management of personnel and discipline, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, recruiting, training, equipment and facilities. Additionally, the Fire Chief is responsible for the department’s fiscal management and planning, including developing and maintaining a strategic plan of the Fire Department’s direction and goals. The Fire Chief may be required to perform as a Firefighter or EMT and must maintain appropriate certifications/licenses in both disciplines to be able to deliver services in the field. The Fire Chief will be able to work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, emergency and stressful situations.
The Fire Chief will be responsible for insuring that command, control and supervision is always available and that an appropriate service level is maintained at all times. The Fire Chief will be qualified to review plans and perform inspections of all new and existing structures to assure compliance with all applicable Fire codes and will maintain the required certifications/licenses to perform the reviews.
The Chief will be a good will ambassador for the Township and will maintain contacts and positive working relationships with the surrounding jurisdictions,agencies, and emergency response agencies. |
| Job Requirements: |
Education/Experience/Competencies/Certifications:
· Associate’s degree or equivalent in fire science, public administration, or a related field, or
· Eight years of experience in fire or emergency medical service work, two years which must have been at an administrative level, and
· Completion of the Fire Basic Training Academy or equivalent with State of Ohio Level II Professional Certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and
· Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical services principles, procedures,techniques, and equipment, including office computers, radios, etc., and
· Working knowledge of first aid and resuscitation techniques and their application as demonstrated through State EMT Intermediate Certification, and
· Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, standard operating procedures and regulations, and
· Skill in use and operation of fire and EMS tools and equipment, and
· Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel, and
· Ability to physically perform work and be in good physical condition, and
· Demonstrated effective oral and written communication, and
· Ability to exercise sound judgment in normal and adverse conditions and make appropriate decisions, and
· Ability to develop and maintain sound and effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the public, and
· Effectively give and receive verbal and written instructions, and
· Complete administrative duties, including financial analysis and planning, budget preparation, personnel evaluation, and management, and
· Be a certified State Fire Safety Inspector, and
· Be a State certified Fire Instructor, or acquire the certification in the first year of employment.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid State Driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any State and have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. |
